The Point Is. .
Offers some insight to what’s going on at The Point
For those who don’t know, I have been in the hospital. So, I am a little late getting the newsletter out this month.
I had Septicemia or bacteria in my blood. It shuts down your organs and you eventually die. Cape Region Medical Center bumped me full of anti-biotic for three or four days. I have felt fairly well through the whole episode and there aint nothing worse than being in the hospital and feeling ok. Stinks!
In any event, I want to thank everybody for their prayers, concerns, well wishes and cards. I appreciate it.

Emilia Olesson has told me about a “spay and release” program in the Point. Program!? Ok not a program. A vet has volunteered to trap, spay and release any feral cats that we identify.
Cats that have already been “processed” have their ears notched. I am the contact person. Problem is Emilia hasn’t told me the vet’s name and how to contact him. That can be handled.
So, if you see a cat with no collar and un-notched ears, contact me. We need to know the cat’s regular habits in order to set the traps in a proper location.
P.S. This works for us and we are able to do this because we do not have any nesting shore birds within the Borough. If we had, like Cape May, it would be another matter.
This newsletter has been accused of being opinionated and only my point of view. . . . YEP!! . . That’s not an accusation. That’s a valid observation.
Think about it. Consider the person sitting in the chair you are sitting in. Consider that person’s perspective of the Borough and ultimately the universe. That is called your point of view. Everybody has one. Can’t get away from it. We have no choice but to come from that point of view and that’s what an opinion is.
This newsletter is from me. It never pretended to be from Borough Hall. Guilty as charged.
After a brief stop by the JIF Risk Control Manager, the entrance is back on track. JIF is our insurance carrier. JIF stands for Joint Insurance Fund.
Trouble is that in the time it took to be sidetracked it could have been done. The loss of time leaves its delivery date obscure at the moment, weather and volunteer availability being the main considerations.
This has caused consternation among some proponents of the walkway. They feel it will pushed and shoved into eventual obscurity. So, I struck a deal with those concerned that if it is not done by some “drop-dead” date (May 1st) then they can build it themselves (according to Ernie’s specs). That will give them plenty of time to complete it before the season starts
A comment has been made that the Borough can’t tell anyone what he or she can or can’t do with his or her property. - - - - -WRONG!
Not only can I but it is my (commissioners) responsibility and obligation – according to the Municipal Land Use Law anyway. There are reasons why you own property here and we are obligated to protect those reasons, rights, etc.
We can’t make it up. The MLUL lays out how all of this happens. It starts with a group of peers called the Planning Board. They collectively generate the Master Plan, which is filed with the state. We generate ordinances that are reviewed by the PB to ensure that they comply with that Master Plan. Any citizen who wants an exception goes to another group of peers called the Zoning Board.
The direction of this Borough is up to the public. That’s why it is important to attend the PB and ZB meetings, to see what is going on and to voice your opinion. If you don’t, you give up your representation and are left with the hope that all these people agree with what you want and your idea of where the Borough is headed.
