The Point Is. .

From Commissioner Nietubicz

Offers some insight to what’s going on at The Point

Quack

Reportedly a true story.  It was printed in the Atlantic Press on Friday June 29th.

“A fleet of 29,000 rubber ducks are expected to wash up on Britain’s beaches this summer after a 15-year, 17,000-mile journey.  The toys were released into the ocean by accident in 1992 when their container washed off a cargo ship in the Pacific.  Since then they’ve been spotted in Alaska, Siberia, Japan, Iceland and Canada.” - - - Amazeable!!

Latest from Trenton

Everybody who talks to anybody in Trenton gets the same answer, “You don’t understand!”

Trenton: School redistricting will be a matter for referendum.  - - TRUE –   Whether or not  Cape May County becomes one school district is up for vote, according to the legislation. It doesn’t say if that will be a county-wide vote or within the municipality to vote to join or not.  What happens if one municipality votes NO and everybody else votes YES.  Can that one municipality remain by itself? Doesn’t say.

It does says quite plainly that non-operating school districts will be eliminated.

Trenton: Eliminating non-operating school district does not mean that we will be incorporated into Lower. - - - TRUE - - The legislation does not say we will  be incorporated into Lower.  It doesn’t say anything about the consequences of eliminating non-operating school districts.

Plain and simple, unless Trenton is willing for us to sit here WITHOUT a school board and continue the way we are (paying tuition for 6 kids), what is going to happen to us?.  Where are they going to put us?   Any guesses?

ANY change in our status will mean a school tax increase. Well, OK, not 100% true BUT I’m givin odds!

This comes at a time when the state just said our property tax couldn’t go up over 4%.  That legislation lists school tax specifically – quite explicit.  Wanna see Trenton wiggle off that one? I’m bettin that they redefine that clause or say it doesn’t count in redistricting.

I’m told that Delaware would love to have us!

Clean-Flo and the Lake

Stands for the compressors are built.  Wires have been wired.  We are waiting for electrical hook-up and inspections (not sure which comes first).  Hopefully, it will be installed by the end of July.

Sea Turtle

We had a sea turtle wash up on Sunset Beach next to the Alexander jetty.  A big dude (or dudette!) – about 80 lbs. I had no idea that sea turtles that size were anywhere around here.  I thought that they are warm water creatures.  The Marine Biologists said that it died of natural causes.

New Deck

The Beach Boys have built a new deck on Coral.  It is tied into the handicapped ramp so that it is wheelchair accessible.

They are also redoing the walkway on Coral, making it doublewide and putting it over the dune.  The stairs on the old entrance are deemed a safety hazard.  The old entrance is to be closed off and is scheduled for demolishing after the season.

Safety

4th of July!!! Time to remind everybody that  fireworks are illegal in the state of New Jersey.  If getting caught and being fined doesn’t bother you then at least be careful.  Even sparklers are hot enough to blind a child or cause severe burns.

If and until we change our legislation,  streets are made for cars.  They are not playgrounds and they are not bike paths.  Consider the wisdom of letting young children ride their bikes after dusk with no reflective gear!!

How smart is it to ride bikes two and three abreast when cars are approaching.  They out weigh you by a couple thousand pounds!  YOU ARE GONNA LOOSE ANY ARGUMENT WITH THAT CAR!!

Save your self-righteous indignation.  Being right does not save anyone from harm and suing somebody or putting somebody in jail does not ease the pain.  We can pass the laws.  We can patrol the streets.  We can issue tickets.  As long as people drive cars, they are gonna speed and they are gonna be in a hurry and they are gonna be less careful at the wrong time.

Now that I have gotten your attention!  Please be safe.  Play defensively and teach your children to play defensively also.  The driver of that car may be the one who checked his brains at the bridge.  We’d like to see you and yours again next year. . . .
