The Point Is. .
Offers some insight to what’s going on at The Point
Francine and I would like to thank everyone for his or her kindness and generosity over the past month. My surgery went well, easier than first expected. Recovery started with some initial problems, problems like pneumonia and small atrial fibrillation. Since then mending has been accelerating. I can walk two blocks, only take two naps a day and I am bored. All good signs.
April meeting dates have been changed for:
Work
session is now Tuesday. April 15th at 10 am at
Borough Hall and
Borough Meeting will be April 17th at 7 pm. At the Fire Hall - - these changes were advertised in today's Star and Wave.
Please
note that Mr. Crowley, the County Superintendent of Schools is scheduled to be
at the April 17th meeting to say a few words about the school tax
and the 2008 budget will also be presented at this meeting
Note:
the state of New Jersey uses an “Equalization Table” to determine what a
communities’ “fair share” is in the school tax pot. This table is based on property assessments.
As we are
being re-evaluated this year and it promises to double our assessments, we will
be twice as rich at end of the year, in “Table Equalization” terms. It doesn’t account for the fact that most of
the people who have made money on their property have moved out.
The Cape May Point Taxpayers' Association is sponsoring a Candidates' Forum relating to the May Borough Election.
The Forum will be held in the Cape May Point Fire Hall on April 19th at 7 P.M. The League of Women Voters of Cape May County will provide a Moderator.
The general format will provide for a three minute opening statement by each candidate, followed by previously submitted questions (on a rotated basis). We expect that each response should be one minute, allowing for a 30 second rebuttal by the other candidates. Within the time constraints provided, questions will be accepted from the floor following the same format. The forum will end with each candidate's one minute closing remarks.
The forum will be followed with coffee and refreshments giving ample opportunity for those present to informally meet the candidates for office.
Tag prices will remain the same for the third year in a
row. Pre-season sales will start on May
1st. The tag office will be
open from nine to noon Tuesday through Sunday.
Seasonal tags are $18 each through May and $20 starting June 1st. As always, if you can’t make it here in May,
you can get the pre-season price ($18) by mailing a check for the entire amount
($18 each) to Box 490, Cape May Point, NJ 08212, ATTN: Tags – make the check
out to the Borough of Cape May Point and include your name and Cape May Point
address.
